Open Doors Day 22.09.2025

This year as well, the team excavating the archaeological complex Provadia–Solnitsata is organizing an Open Doors Day, which will take place on its traditional date – 22.09.2025 (Monday). Once again, we have prepared an interesting route, different from the standard tour through the complex, which will be open only on this day. During the tour, all visitors will have the opportunity to view the archaeological site and hear an engaging talk presenting salt production in Late Prehistory and the emergence and development of the settlement of the first salt-makers.
Of course, we have not forgotten our younger admirers. In the parking area in front of the entrance to the complex, a children’s corner will be organized. In addition to the entertainments and games familiar from previous years, we are planning some surprises.
The visit will be organized according to the usual procedure – from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Entry will take place at intervals of about 10–15 minutes from the parking lot, in groups of up to 50 people, in order of the number received from our “desk” at the parking lot. At the end of the path, the director of excavations, Academician Vasil Nikolov, will present a brief overview of the archaeological complex as well as our new projects. After that, a colleague from the team will lead the group along the marked route, climbing to the upper level of the settlement mound with the possibility of a wide view toward the southwestern and southern side of the monument, as well as an introduction to technological aspects of prehistoric architecture. Then, they will descend and circle the mound and hear additional information provided by other colleagues from the team.
The tour lasts about 40-45 minutes. The visit and the talk are free of charge, but we accept donations for the continuation of conservation and restoration activities being carried out at the site. You may also purchase souvenirs which will surely attract your attention, as well as brochures about Solnitsata (we have many new varieties this year)!
Please note that during the tour smoking is highly undesirable (not to say forbidden), as is the throwing of litter! It is very advisable to bring hat and a bottle of water. We recommend light shoes suitable for uneven terrain.
Since during some hours the number of people wishing to visit Solnitsata is greater, at the parking lot in front of the entrance we will organize art workshops and entertainment for children.
